US President Barack Obama on Thursday prepared for the possibility of launching unilateral American military action against Syria within days as Britain opted out in a stunning vote by Parliament.

在英國議會周四投票意外讓英國退出聯(lián)盟的同時，美國總統(tǒng)奧巴馬已經做好了可能在近期對敘利亞采取單方軍事行動的準備。

“單方面行動”可以用unilateral action表示，也可以用solo action來表示，即“單獨行動”，是相對于“聯(lián)合行動”（joint action）而言的。Solo常用作名詞表示“獨唱、獨奏”等單人表演，如：solo concert（個人演唱會），guitar solo（吉他獨奏）等。

另外，to act alone也可以表示單獨行動，如：Those who used to chastise America for acting alone in the world cannot now stand by and wait for America to solve the world's problems alone.（過去有人嚴厲抨擊美國在全球單獨行動，如今他們也不能袖手旁觀，等待美國單獨解決世界面臨的問題）。

奧巴馬28日公開指認敘利亞巴沙爾•阿薩德政府動用化學武器（chemical weapons），但強調美方還沒有就軍事干預（military intervention）敘利亞局勢作出最終決定。美國在建立對敘行動國際聯(lián)盟（international coalition）方面也遭遇重重困難，主要盟友（major allay）英國改變先前立場，承諾聯(lián)合國調查結果出爐以前不發(fā)動軍事行動。
